SOUTHEAST HOUSTON AFFORDABLE HOUSING INITIATIVE

A Partnership between MRA & CCPPI

Through an ongoing partnership with the Midtown Redevelopment Authority (MRA), CCPPI continues to play a significant role in implementing the Southeast Houston Affordable Housing Initiative, MRA's affordable housing plan.  The program supports and subsidizes the construction of houses by conveying MRA-owned land to the purchaser. The program makes homes affordable and keeps the dream of homeownership within reach for qualified homebuyers who would otherwise be unable to purchase a brand-new home in the Greater Third Ward area and other neighborhoods due to high levels of gentrification and current market conditions.
 

Program Highlights:

• Income Eligibility: Homebuyers must earn no more than 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
• Owner-Occupancy Requirement: Purchased homes must be the buyer’s primary residence and may not be rented.
• Land Recapture Clause: Buyers must repay the land cost to MRA if they do not reside in the home for 20 years.
• Education Requirement: Completion of a homebuyer education course through a HUD-approved agency.  If the course is taken outside of the Houston Area Urban League (HAUL), a two-hour HAUL session specific to the MRA affordability program is also required.
